Carpet is such a versatile product that it is one of the most popular floorcovering used in the commercial industry. Carpet comes in sheet or tile form and is regularly used in storerooms, change rooms, medical centres, offices, gymnasiums, main retail trading area applications, just to name a few. Thanks to the numerous suppliers in Australia, Integra Floors have access to an extensive range of colours, styles, textures and fibres to choose from, to suit your carpet application needs.
  


Carpet (Roll)

Broadloom carpet is available in a large range of colours and styles as well as a variety of different textures and fibres to suit your particular application. You even have the option of custom made carpet to achieve the exact look you want. Carpet is commonly used in storerooms, change rooms and main retail trading areas. Carpet installation is generally via the direct stick system, where the carpet is stuck down directly to the concrete slab, however it can also installed by “dual-bond” using a specifically designed “slab” underlay, which helps provide cushion under foot. Installation all depends on the area and amount of traffic expected.

There are many different types of fibres used in carpet construction, but the following four are the most common: 

Nylon
• Extremely strong flexible fibre
• Highly resistant to wear by abrasion
• Resistant to oils and chemicals
• Does not easily absorb moisture
• Softer to touch than polypropylene

Wool
• Very hardwearing and durable
• Fire resistant
• Warm and softer underfoot
• Easy to clean
• Outstanding appearance-retention

Polypropylene
• Hard wearing
• Dries easily when wet
• Does not easily create static
• Chemical resistant,
• resistant to mould growth
• Stain and soil resistant
• Resistant to fading in sunlight
• Is the lightest of all the fibres
• Most cost effective carpet

Solution-dyed nylon
• Same features as ‘Nylon’ above
• Highly fade resistant
• Locked in colour not affected by bleach
• Stain and soil resistant
• Outstanding appearance-retention

There are several different types of pile construction however, the main four are:

Cut Pile

 

The usual loops are cut, resulting in a flat, plain finish. Density of the fibre and type of fibre used and amount of twist in the pile will determine the quality and durability of the carpet. Be aware of ‘Permanent Pile Reversal’ also known as ‘Water marking’, and ‘shedding’ in wool carpets.

Level Loop

 

Loops of pile that are of the same height. Density of the fibre and type of fibre used will determine the quality and durability, but generally this format gives the best wear for the money. Different colour yarns combined with high-tech tufting looms allow for many interesting designs.

Multilevel Loop

 

Loops at different heights, thereby allowing subtle and elegant patterns to be created in the carpet while using a single colour yarn. When multiple colours are blended into multi-level loop construction, striking designs can be achieved, either geometric, modernistic or traditional.

Twist pile (or "Frieze")

 

Strongly twisted fibres are cut leaving a textured non-directional surface, which often appears two-toned or even flecked. The twist in the pile gives the carpet a hardwearing surface that resists marks from vacuuming and footprints, and reduces the risk of “Permanent Pile Reversal”.



Carpet Tiles

More and more carpet suppliers in Australia are introducing carpet tiles into their standard product ranges as they are becoming an increasingly popular option. Once used only in bulk health, education and office applications, the humble carpet tile is finding its way into a wide spectrum of projects, from temporary site-offices to high-end retail shops. This is due to carpet tiles being available in an increasingly wide range of colours, styles, textures and fibres at a price that is only slightly higher than the broadloom equivalent.

Carpet tiles are usually installed using a pressure sensitive adhesive to allow easy removal for cleaning or rotation, but they can also be installed by ‘Dual Bond’ on a slab underlay. Depending of the design chosen and the look you are after, you have the option of choosing the laying direction, that being either, straight lay, quarter turn or brick bond We do recommend that this be discussed with the end-user well in advance, and in conjunction with the manufacturer’s guidelines.
